The Handicap Wizard Turf Program had a good result yesterday in race 10 at Gulfstream, the $75K Tropical Park Derby, run at 1 1/6 mi. on the turf for three-year olds. The program’s second selection (by less than one percentage point), #13 Halladay, with a 16.36% winning probability won at 7-2, while it had the top three finishes in its top three selections. The race largely mirrored the results in the final speed (SPD) category, where it went Temple (32.9%), Halladay (26.9%) and Faraway Kitten (13.5%) fourth. Faraway Kitten’s Winning Percentage at 12.8% pushed it into the top three according to Total Winning Probability. Halladay then charged past Notorious Nick on the back stretch and maintained the lead around the far turn and into the final stretch. #3 Faraway Kitten came off the rail to make a three-wide bid, but Halladay held on doggedly on the inside. #6 Temple came up late down the center to take third in the tri-fecta. Halladay paid $8.60 for the win. The $1 exacta paid $44.10, while the $0.50 tri-fecta paid $118.80.
